What is TSA Precheck?
In short, TSA PreCheck is a membership program designed to allow “trusted travelers” to move through airport checkpoints faster. Once enrolled you no longer have to remove your shoes, laptops, belts or light jackets.
To get started you can use the link above to Apply Online and schedule an appointment. The appointment will include a background check and fingerprinting. My appointment lasted no more than 10 minutes and I was approved within a week.
How does TSA Precheck Work?
Once approved for the program you will receive a KTN (known traveler number). When booking flights you will have to add this number to your reservation. Some airlines like Southwest allow you to save this to your profile to be applied on all future flights.
When printing your boarding pass you will now notice “TSA PreCheck” printed at the top of the ticket. You can now use the special TSA PreCheck lines when passing through security (much faster).
